Malachi stands a few inches shy of six feet and is built like an athlete. His short pale hair is almost as light as his skin and spiked in an unkempt sort of way. He has gray eyes that seem to sparkle when he is excited.


Malachi has a quiet nature and his demeanor is typically shy until he gets excited. He talks very quickly and animatedly about things he is passionate about – most notably magic and swordplay. He has great empathy for others, and hates the thought of others suffering.

Malachi is the son of a younger daughter of the Oakar family of Havenshire. Always a quiet child, he enjoyed reading stories about the Age of Heroes. He grew up in the shadow of his cousin Dorian, but was always happy to play at swords with the older boy. It gave him an opportunity to pretend to be a hero of old like in one of the legends. Climbing trees, swimming in Sunset Lake, and attempting other physical feats of derring-do, his body grew stronger. Equally intrigued by magic, he began seeking out any possible source of hidden lore that he could scrounge up.

Malachi drew the attention of Redick Parademis when he started taking time to play with and read to the retired Circle Dancer’s son Parris. The crippled boy would watch longingly as the cousins ran, jumped, climbed, swam, and played at swords. Malachi noticed the younger boy watching on one such occasion and broke from Dorian to spend some time with him. He began reading from his favorite stories – in different voices and with dramatic pauses – a source of great delight for young Parris.

The time and kindness Malachi spent on the crippled boy warmed Redick’s heart. His decent nature in spite of the eternal night plaguing the world endeared the otherwise socially awkward boy to the old man. Redick had a few conversations with Malachi and discovered that he also had a sharp mind, and it was at that time the boy revealed his interest in magic. The old Circle Dancer decided to take Malachi under his wing and nurture his curiosity about swordplay and the arcane mysteries.

He became interested in the League of Circle Dancers as he entered his teenage years, and thus Redick revealed to him the secrets of blending blade and magic into a unified whole. He was thrilled to receive such instruction, and before the trouble started, he dreamed of entering the games and achieving a noteworthy rank and using his winnings to improve the lives of others. He had no delusions of being a top-tier champion, but time and experience may give him the confidence to overcome this self-imposed limitation on his potential.

In the two weeks after Jolial of Krul came to Havenshire and shook the small community out of its complacency, Malachi trained hard to master the basics. He hopes to defend his home and the people that live there from the infamous “Butcher of Halidus.” The intensity of the training brought his talents into unexpected focus, and after a particularly grueling day of swordplay and mind-taxing magical formulas, he discovered his avatar…

Malachi is unsure what to make of the winged phantasm, but he knows that it helps guide his art and has helped him increase his skills to a point where he will not just be a liability in the coming conflict. He only hopes it is enough to allow him to survive and contribute to the protection of Havenshire in a meaningful way.
